Day 25: The Monster Mix...Not the Monster Mash! #CoundowntoHalloween2021

Credit to the cartoonist

My monster friends,

It seems somewhere along the October time line, I seemed to have crashed and burned. It seems there was some sort of monster mix up and I got into the middle of it and got lost.

Yeah, that is the excuse I am going to use.

Anyway, I am on the final push to Halloween before my crypt closes until 2022! WOW!

So, since the monsters are walking around a muck, I will give an eclectic mix this week as well. Let's go!

I was thinking tonight that I should share some facts that I have found around the blogsphere.

VAMPIRES:

Folklore vampires can become vampires not only through a bite, but also if they were once a werewolf, practiced sorcery, were excommunicated, committed suicide, were an illegitimate child of parents who were illegitimate, or were stillborn or died before baptism. In addition, anyone who has eaten the flesh of a sheep killed by a wolf, was a seventh son, was the child of a pregnant woman who was looked upon by a vampire, was a nun who stepped over an unburied body, had teeth when they were born, or had a cat jump on their corpse before being buried could also turn into vampires. ~source: www.factretriever.com/vampire-facts

ZOMBIES:

Zombies may have the trademark zombie limp because their bodies are affected by the same decomposition process as any normal corpse. Additionally, rigor mortis would cause serious tissue and muscle damage at the zombie’s each step. Since zombies do not regenerate or heal, any damage is permanent. Eventually, a zombies’ top speed would be reduced to a crawl and perhaps even slow to the point where it could not move. ~Source: www.factretriever.com/zombie-facts

Bonus : There is a law in Haiti that makes it a crime to turn someone into a zombie. Article 249 states that if someone drugs another person, buries him as though he were dead, and then digs the person up and brings him back to life, it is still considered murder.

WITCHES:

People who practiced witchcraft experimented with herbs and potions in rituals that may have used the mandrake plant. Mandrake contains scopolamine and atropine, two alkaloids that cause feelings of euphoria in low doses and hallucinations in higher doses. The rituals—performed in the nude—called for the participants to rub an herbal ointment containing the mandrake on their foreheads, wrists, hands, and feet as well as on a staff aka broom that they would “ride.” The friction of the ointment-coated staff on the witches', uh, lady parts would absorb the ointment into their system and cause a floating sensation—and their description of that feeling is what perpetuated the symbol of the witch flying on a broomstick. ~ source: Weird Facts About Witches | Mental Floss

Associating with Zombies or Living In Colorado #zombies #myphotos

I used to associate with zombies. They really were not bad people, just misunderstood. After all, if you got a craving for something, wouldn't you want to eat?

I know, I know, they eat brains you say. Well, I was fortunate enough that they were pretty full when I was around them. I guess I got lucky!

Oh yeah, one time, I met the then governor of Colorado. He ended up running for President of the United States. Some say he was a zombie but I never believed them.

Keeping it spooky.

Day 10: Shout Out to...

I support National Haunted House Day, the Second Friday in October!

Since Covid messed everything up in the last two years, I don't know if this is even a thing. However, I neglected to mention that the 2nd Friday of October is National Haunted House Day

So, a huge shout out to those artist, individuals, and business people who have always put on a good spook show for those that enjoy it. It has been a staple of October and Halloween for years.

The houses originally were small, but have grown into...well...HUGE attractions inviting people to be scared out of their wits.

We can still celebrate them and hope they return in the near future.

Day 9: Frankenstein Does Musicals #music #CountdowntoHalloween2021

As I finish up this week to all things Frankenstein and his monster, I came across a musical for Frankenstein. I didn't even know there was one. So, since there is, I became intrigued. I need tickets!

But I digress. This piece here shows the madness that Frankenstein was and his thought process to making his creation.

Since, I have already gone down this rabbit hole, I found yet another musical based off of the movie, "Young Frankenstein." This was only a presentation for an awards show in 2018 but oh...

Although this next piece is not a musical, I will leave you with this haunting  music that is the Monster himself. It is not so much as in words but you can almost feel the inner thoughts. A life given that was not asked for.

PS> I have also come across, this week, several depictions of Frankenstein's monster? What is your favorite?

Your Master Crypt Keeper, Michelle

Day 8: I Brake for Frankenstein #humor

Today I thought I would give us a musical break (see what I did there?) and insert some Frankenstein humor.

Monsters are funny you know? We already know "The Monster" is a hoot at parties. So, enjoy!

Of course I have to disclose that none of these belong to me and all credit goes to the artist themselves. ~Michelle, MCC

Did you know Dr. Frankenstein and his monster often get mixed up. It's true!

Apparently though, he was given a name.

He seems to have been body shamed too which is sad for this century.

All in all though, what can one expect when you were made by a mad man.

Day 7: Frankenstein Is Very Popular #Frankensteinmusic #movies

I never got the chance to meet the real Frankenstein, I was not born when he was created. However, I have heard that he was extremely popular. Like meeting Abbott and Costello, he met a ton of other people. Wow, who knew?

He met the Beatles, I am sure he was a fan.

He met the Space Monster, which is overly cool. Where I live, apparently there is supposed to be aliens, but I have not met one yet.

He has also met Maria. I suppose that was his first real friend. Of course we know now that this was before we would even think of leaving children by themselves for the day and stranger danger. sigh...
I wonder if she ever met him again?

Of course we all know that doc Frankenstein was nice (or crazy) enough to create another monster for his creation which became Frankenstein's monster.

Some people say that we should never meet Mr. Frankenstein. What do you think?

Day 5 & 6: Frankenstein Is In The House #Frankensteinmusic #Svengoolie #movies

This past Saturday, I was watching Svengoolie who was hosting the movie, "Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein."  First of all, I don't know about you but I like Svengoolie with his campy humor and the terrific old movies he shows. This one, in some ways, I think was miss labeled because they certainly met more than Frankenstein's monster. However, they were in Dr. Frankenstein's house so, I can let it go.

Anyway, today I am posting things about Frankenstein's monster for the rest of the week. He like other monster meet up at Zombie Crossings and is welcome here.

Since, I mentioned that I have been reading the book, " Graveyard Groove", I thought today I would just share some Frankenstein music.

Side Note: This post is serving for days 5 & 6 because I am headed off today to spook a house. I will be gone through the 14th but will have pre-postings for your delight. ~Michelle, MCC

Let's go to his house first:

Apparently, he likes to have parties. Are you going?

He knows how to dance too. He's got his own moves!

Day 4: A Little #Zombie # Humor & Music #CountdowntoHalloween2021 #zombiemusic

My photo: please credit me to use.

When you are a zombie, you have to have a little humor in your undead life. I mean, "zombies are people too!"

I found these cartoons to tell it like it is. These are not mine. All credit goes to the creators.

Also, another song for zombies.

Day 2-3 Music Moment: Do the Zombie #zombies #CountdowntoHalloween2021 #zombiemusic

Welcome to day 2/3. As this is the place to find the zombies, it is fitting that I should have some music for them. Right? These three songs I have never heard before. They are great and for sure Halloween Dance Party! They have invited other monsters and ghouls to this page so, be sure to come back for more music and fun throughout October.

This one is truly different.

It's Time! The Zombies and Others Are Loose! #CryptOpen #CountdowntoHalloween2021

It is time! October 1st has arrived and that means the zombies and other creatures that roam are on the loose. If you have been following me for the last couple of years, you know that I am one of two Master Crypt Keepers who runs the Countdown To Halloween Blog. If you are just finding me and want to join the multitude of bloggers who blog everything Halloween, then sign up. You only have until October 3rd though, so hurry!

So, this blog...

Well, this month, as the crypts are open here, I will be posting a multitude of things. I thought at first I would  post monster music exclusively, but now have decided against that mostly. However, I have been reading this fantastic book from this guy who goes by Captain October. His book, "Grave Yard Groove: outlines the first beginnings of Monster Music to the present. He lists a ton of music, some of which I will indeed share here. By the way, I will be reviewing that book on my reading blog and other books HERE

Other things you will see here this month is fun cartoons, memes, and plain ole Halloween fun. My friend, Scardy Cat aka Stephanie may drop by on occasion as she has the past couple of years. I can't be sure because this year she had another little monster of her own. If not, I will be sharing some of her costume artistry as well.

Hope you have fun!

Michelle, MCC
